MOLLY COUTURE'S CORO EXPERIENCE, Alto Student Apprentice (2023-25)
My journey with Coro de Cámara started in the fall of 2019 when I performed with them as a dramatist. At twelve years old, I was captivated by their musicality and talent as artists. It was choral music of a caliber that I hadn’t seen or heard before. There I mettheir incredible Artistic Director Nylea Butler-Moore and created a dream to one day be able to sing with Coro.
Flash forward 4 years, I was offered the opportunity to audition with Coro as a student apprentice, and I couldn’t have been more excited. I sang with the choir for two seasons, my junior and senior year of high school, and participated in 6 sets of concert music. The experience was everything that twelve-year-old me dreamed it could be and more. I’ve grown as a musician and as a person through my time with Coro, and the people there have become like a second family to me. It’s been really cool to make awesome music with awesome people.
When performing Morten Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna in my first concert, I knew I had found my home, and I still hear snippets of it to this day. In addition to learning about music, Coro taught me about what a musician can look like, whether a mother, a scientist, a photographer, a teacher, or a student, all of these people bring their lives into their music and share it with the world. I was lucky to be part of that community and look forward to continuing to share my music in the spirit of Coro.
